Our last Canadian Port

As predicted the winds continued into Friday afternoon, so I was glad to be at the marina in Blind River. We went and explored the town, which is about 1 1/2 miles from the marina. We went out to dinner at Monique's, which offers an all you can eat fish dinner. They didn't know Mark's appetite and he thoroughly enjoyed the perch, pickerel and whitefish (several helpings worth). They are about 2 1/2 miles from the marina, so we got our exercise in! Much to our surprise we woke up to low winds Saturday morning and I enjoyed updating the blog while watching the sunrise to my east and the full moon (blue moon - 2nd full moon in the month) to my west. The "light winds" didn't last long and we listened to the weather forecast and decided to stay another night. We spoke to some of the locals and they said these winds were unusual, not sure about that, it's been windy for quite a while. Anyway, we still had some Canadian money left so we decided to eat dinner at 17 Restaurant. The food was good and inexpensive, but the best part was dessert. When you are in Canada you have to try the butter tarts. This was called a "butter tart explosion", which in reality was a waist line explosion! It was a warmed butter tart, French vanilla ice cream, drizzled with caramel sauce, topped with pecans and whipped cream...Mark and I did split it. It was fantastic!
Blind River was our most northern point on the trip, wouldn't you know we are the furthest from home that we will be and a sailboat shows up with people that live 15 miles from us in Hamburg, NY and keep their boat at the Dunkirk Yacht Club. They love the area so much that after they cruise the North Channel, they are going to leave their boat here and come back next summer.
We've really enjoyed our time in Canada and hate to end that section of our adventure.
We got up early Sunday as the weather was suppose to be better, the weathermen didn't really have that one right. We experienced 3-5 foot waves and the rain and thunderstorms that were suppose to start around noon, started as we were approaching Drummond Island, Michigan, USA. We had intended to go to De Tour but with the rain we docked at Drummond.
