What follows is a synopsis of our trip in our boat in the summer of 2015. The plan is to circumnavigate Lake Erie, Ontario and Huron, utilizing and experiencing canals, rivers, streams and small lakes. Possible side trips may include quick visits to Lake Michigan and/or Lake Superior.
After years of dreaming about it, months of planning it, and weeks of final preparation to actually be able to leave on the predetermined departure date, we untied the lines and cruised away from the security and comfort of our home, our family, and our friends on June 14, 2015 in search of an adventure that we hope to be able to look back upon as a time that defined us as boaters out of the ordinary, whose passion for the water brought us closer to a lifestyle we so enjoy and to experience sights and sounds previously unknown.
We shoved off waving to our friends on "M dock" for our summer of 2015 adventure. We headed down the Niagara River to the western entrance to the Erie Canal. It began to rain by the time we locked through Lock 35 & 34 in Lockport, NY. It continued to rain all the way to Medina where we tied up for the night.
We joined the AGLCA (American Great Loop Cruisers Association) to gain knowledge of what may lay ahead of us. We passed a boat in Middleport, NY flying the ACLGA burgee from Stuart, FL. We couldn't believe we saw another "looper" our very first day.
