Finally some Wi-Fi

On Monday morning we headed to Port Colborne, clear skies and a very flat Lake Erie. We did some grocery shopping, where I was very surprised at how low the prices were for produce compared to the states. We bought our pass to go through the Welland Canal in hopes we could go on Tuesday morning. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate as we had a major rain, lightening and thunderstorms over night. We awoke on Tuesday to additional morning rain and high winds. Mark decided we should wait until Wednesday to enter the Welland as the weather forecast would be improved.
Tuesday evening during a break in the storms we saw a spectacular rainbow that went from horizon to horizon and then a second one started to form.

 

On Wednesday morning we made our way to the Municipal dock to wait for passage on the Welland Canal. After an hours wait we were ready to start moving through with 2 sail boats. The total time to lock through was 8 1/4 hours. The staff was very friendly and we had no issues going through.

Mark was right to wait until Wednesday because by the time we finished the Welland and got to Lake Ontario, the lake was flat. We made the run across to Brighton, Ontario and stayed at the beginning of the Murray Canal.

Thursday we started the Trent Severn and we are currently in Hastings, Ontario. We will hang out here for a day or two while some weather passes by. I will get some shopping done, work on this blog, and do some laundry. If the weather isn't too bad, Mark wants to launch the dinghy and do some fishing.

Yesterday we went from Campbellford to Hastings with 3 other boats doing the loop. We had "docktails" and went out to dinner with them. They are all at different stages of their loop trip. One started from Tennessee, one from Virginia and another from Georgia. All flying the AGLCA burgee and all very friendly! So nice to get their perspective on the loop.
