Good thing we brought a boat

Good thing we brought a boat...we may need it to get around the towns. All it does is rain. It has rained 11 out of 17 days on our trip, but we are still having a great time. We love all of these small Canadian towns.
Sunday morning we went to breakfast at the Family Restaurant in Hastings and had a classic bacon and egg breakfast but with peameal bacon, it was yummy! We left in the rain and went to Peterborough. We figured we might as well boat instead of sit in the rain. The locals said " be careful of Rice Lake, it can be rough on days like this", the biggest wave we saw was when we crossed the wake of one of our fellow loopers. Apparently the locals have never done any boating on Lake Erie.

When we got to Peterborough we went for a walk (in the rain) and ran into Lola and Terry from Sunny Days (the folks we mentioned earlier from Tennessee). Afterwards we walked to Tim Horton's (in the rain) to use the wi-fi. The next morning we left Peterborough (in the rain), but it stopped shortly after we left, and we went through the hydraulic lift lock built in 1904. Our next destination was Clear Lake. Now we are starting to get into the heart of the Kawartha lakes region, and many well to do Torontonians have "cottages" there.

We spent the night at Lovesick lock. It is a lock on an island, even the lock staff have to go to work by boat. On our way there we passed through a section of narrow winding channels filled with granite rocks called "Hells Gate". It may be called Hells Gate, but to us it looked like a little piece of heaven... it is absolutely beautiful.

Mark did a little fishing after dinner and then we spent some time with Sunny Days.

 

Today its on to Bobcaygeon for the Canada Day celebration in town, might spend 2 days there because we hear it is a fun touristy kind of place and there are sure to be a lot of people around because of the holiday. The weather forecast is actually predicting several days of sun and warm temperatures.
