Not in a million years

If you had asked my younger self about the possibility of being anchored in our 40' boat, behind the Statue of Liberty after completing just over 7000 miles circumnavigating the eastern third of the U.S. and having right around 750 miles left before getting home I would have said, "yeah right...not in a million years". Yet that is exactly what happened on Sunday afternoon when we made our way into NY Harbor, with all the hustle and bustle of boats, water taxis, tour boats and law enforcement. Anchoring behind Lady Liberty in 10' of water was just one of the neatest things we have done and I don't think you could have wiped the smile off my face as we sat and watched and enjoyed the comings and goings. Think "little kid in a candy store" and that was me! It was AWESOME and to top it off our daughter Allison could see the boat anchored from her apartment window...does it really get any cooler than that?
Just when I thought it couldn't get any better the fireworks started, first from the Brooklyn area and then a second one just north of us from Manhattan. They lasted well over 20 minutes...spectacular!
Now with all that boat traffic comes a fair amount of rocking and rolling, which was well worth it and I recommend it to all our boating friends to try for at least a night.

We picked up our anchor late Monday morning and headed over to Staten Island and the Great Kills Yacht Club. We are looking forward to spending time with Allison for the next week before we head north into the Hudson River and ultimately our last leg of the journey back to Buffalo.

It was like a scene from a police show, the NYPD helicopter

was hovering over a small boat anchored, then 2 police

 boats came over. The police left and went further down in the 

harbor to another small boat.

Maybe some kind of distress signal and they were trying to

find the correct boat?
