We moved 3 miles to the Rock Hall Landing Marina Friday morning where we stayed 2 nights. It's always best to try to be in these small towns on a weekend to get the true flavor. This is definitely a destination port for people escaping the frantic pace of the cities and enjoying a little R&R with restaurants, live music, a pool at the marina and the town within a 1 mile walk. If you don't feel like walking you can take the tram for $1 to/from town, which will take you to the grocery, liquor, West Marine, pharmacy or little shops along the main street. The weather was exceptional so after my hair appt. and grocery shopping we spent the afternoon on Saturday at the pool. We also met Ken Marks from Marks Marine Insurance who is a speaker at the AGLCA rendezvous, who loans his truck to loopers - thank you Ken!
Our "zag" took us back over to the west shore, 26 miles to Baltimore and Henderson Wharf Marina on Sunday. A great day for boating and being a Sunday we had lots of company out on the water. Reminder to self, save travelling to the bigger cities for weekdays as the Patapsco River and Baltimore Harbor were crowded and these boats don't slow down for anyone.
Heat was the name of the game for the 2 nights we spent there, 90+ each day, a little breezy which actually felt more like heat from a blast furnace and thankfully low humidity. It was surprising to see so many ladies walking around with umbrellas in the sunshine.
The marina is located at Fells Point, a historic waterfront neighborhood and according to wikipedia it has the greatest concentration of restaurants and drinking establishments in the city. As we walked the streets in Fells Point, the inner harbor and Little Italy, we decided we could stay here a year and never frequent all the restaurants.
While here we had the diver come and check the bottom for barnacles and growth, it had been 6 weeks, we should be good now until we get home.
We've been watching the weather and there are winds and rain in the forecast for the end of the week. We thought about taking this opportunity to go from Baltimore directly to Cape May...it would be a very long day on Tuesday and we decided it was crazy to push ourselves. Heck, we're retired...no need to rush. Next thought was to anchor overnight in the Sassafras River because they seldom get the weather right, they were predicting t-storms...we decided the next best thing was to stop and throw the anchor in, have lunch, jump in the water and then head to Delaware City. That's how we said farewell to the Chesapeake and with 95 degree weather, 80 degree water, it was a great decision. We thoroughly enjoyed the Chesapeake and were glad we could spend so much time exploring the different cities and towns. We have to admit, our favorite was St. Michael's!
We finished up the 76 mile day Tuesday at Delaware City Marina where we will be here for ?? days. We are getting a rental car and going to visit Mark's sister on Friday, then we will wait for a good weather day to head down Delaware Bay to Cape May.
