Algonac, Michigan

Tuesday morning we left Erie, PA amongst north winds and swells from the northeast. After a couple of hours the lake flattened out and we made the 150 mile trek to a great anchorage at Kelly's Island (just east of  Put-In-Bay), where we enjoyed swimming in the 82 degree lake.

Wednesday morning we awoke to a beautiful sunrise and we set off for Algonac, MI. Thirty miles of Lake Erie and then up the Detroit River, which reminds me of the Niagara River with its close proximity to Canada. As we crossed Lake St. Clair we thought about throwing the anchor in but they were calling for t-storms again, so we decided to go to Algonac Harbour Boat Club (the old Chris-Craft manufacturing site). The storms ended up missing us and stayed north. We were happy to have electric to fire up the aircondintioning...the high was 92 degrees. The weather forecast was iffy for the next couple of days, so we stayed put...got out the bikes, explored, swam in the pool and headed to the towns best restaurant, Catch 22.

We learned an interesting fact about Christopher Columbus Smith, founder of the Chris-Craft Boat Company.... He installed a motor in a wooden boat and launched it in the St. Clair river (1893), 3 years before Henry Ford installed one in the first motor-car.

Our plan is to head north tomorrow to Lake Huron (weather dependent).
