Anyway, for the last couple of days I haven't known if I was in MS or AL, the rivers curve and wind so much, one minute you are in Mississippi and the other Alabama. Moving forward we are in AL and will be until we hit the gulf. This section of the Tenn-Tom has had a little more debris so we are ever on the lookout for branches, logs and debris.
Saturday morning there was a flotilla of 9 boats that left by 7 am to hit the first lock right outside of the marina. We decided to go at 8 am and there were only 2 of us in the lock. Everyone goes at different speeds and picks different anchorages so the flotillas usually end up breaking up within a short time, then we all reconvene at the next marina. We decided Saturday would be a 2 lock, 49 mile day and anchored at Windom Landing cutoff (closest town is Aliceville, AL) in about 14' of water. This location is right next to farm land and the angus cattle must have decided it was TDH (too darn hot) because there were about 15 of them standing in the water. We settled in and threw a stern anchor in so we could position the boat in the shade. No, I have not seen any gators yet but this water seems rather murky so I did not swim. We did have a little snake visit our swim platform at the marina and I am still on the lookout for the wild pigs, turtles (saw a few) and gators. There ended up being 3 boats at this anchorage and we woke to the sound of the cattle mooing.
Sunday's plan was 1 lock and about 60 miles to Rattlesnake #2 anchorage. Nice anchorage in about 10' of water. We could hear the owls around us, never saw them but could definitely hear them. By having a longer day Monday it made for a shorter day Tuesday as we only had about 8 miles to go to Kingfisher Marina in Demopolis. That worked out great so that we could take on fuel and get into our slip without much traffic. This is a perfect stop to work on some maintenance items, re-provision, great laundry facility and a pool. They also arrange shuttles for dinner and Wal-Mart runs along with a Halloween party on the elevated outdoor deck. We will be leaving here Wednesday morning we are heading towards Mobile, AL. There are only a few good anchorages and 1 marina, Bobby's Fish Camp from here to Mobile (216 miles), so we will be anchored out for the next few nights.
