Captain's Choice blog: Weather is relative to where you are

With the cold front that brought the winds it also brought some cooler temperatures for a few days...now cooler is only relative to where you are at that time. Cooler here in the Abacos are high's of 70-72 and lows of maybe 66, not bad and very refreshing if you ask us. BUT, we are in the Bahamas and for some it was downright cold (they could never survive the north in winter) as they were wearing winter coats. We did don a sweatshirt when the sun went down but it's been shorts weather for over a month. The "cold" only lasted a few days and then it was back to 80. As far as rain goes, when it does rain it's usually not more than a sprinkle, not enough to give Captains Choice a good wash down.
It has remained windy, 17+ mph daily and depending on the direction we either spent our afternoons on the marina side or headed over to the beach side while at Treasure Cay.

The Treasure Cay resort and Marina has come up with a great marketing concept, they have posters hanging with different themed nights for almost every night of the week. Thursday happened to be pizza night and they said order your pizza early because they get a large crowd. On Thursday they set up extra tables, another outdoor bar and the staff was really busy getting ready for "pizza night". Mind you, you can purchase a pizza any night of the week at Tipsy Seagull so Mark stopped and asked if there was a "special" because of it being pizza night...the waitress said "no, it's the same price", so we're thinking maybe drink specials..."no, same price". Well we had to see for ourselves what the attraction was. At 5:30 we went and ordered our pizza and we were #16, within 20 minutes they were up to number 53 and the people just kept coming. The pizza was good, not Buffalo pizza but we are in the Bahamas. A bunch of us boaters commented on what a great concept they have...desiginate a specific night to get what you can get any night and they will come!

Although the winds were still pretty strong on Sunday we headed to Marsh Harbour, 18 miles, to Mangoes Marina. Sunday night they had a 5 piece band playing country music for the boaters outside Mangoes Restaurant that we attended. We got here a few days early as Allison arrives on Wednesday, but it gave us the opportunity to get laundry done, give the boat a good cleaning and shop for some fresh produce and veggies at Maxwell's Grocery. They have a good size grocery store here but the best prices have been in Spanish Wells.
There are several loopers (in progess, gold & platnum) in the area that we ended up catching up with over the last couple of days.
