Charming Charleston take 2

Yes, we are still here in Charleston, SC. Actually Captain's Choice was here the whole 2 weeks, whereas the Captain and I headed home for a week. It was great that the end of tax season coincided with Easter so that we could be with family for the holiday. It was one of those whirlwind visits, getting things done and meeting up with some of our family and friends. Thanks again to Karen, Bev and Jeanette for hosting the different gatherings.

Since we have been in the south all winter there was a weird realization that it really is only April as we drove home. We left SC with palm trees, flowers and trees in full bloom. It didn't take long before the palm trees were gone and we moved from low country to beautiful mountains. The trees were in different stages of leaf and there were bushes in beautiful shades of pink, purple and white. By the time we got home we thought, "holy cow it's still winter here". The trees were just starting to bud and the daffodils were out but that was about it. And where was the sunshine? It's easy to get use to seeing it daily in the south...it's not quite like that at home...April showers bring May flowers.
Funny how within a weeks time the grass really greened up and the trees were really coming to life. The next time we go home we will be bringing Captain's Choice home to a new marina configuration, warm Lake Erie water and breezes, sun and flowers!

Wednesday the 19th we saw Last Call anchored close to the marina, so I gave them a shout out on the phone and found out they were headed to a marina closer to downtown Charleston. We hadn't seen them in several months and decided we would meet for a late lunch downtown. It was great to catch up and hear about their adventures in the Bahamas. We also did some more walking around Charleston which I have dubbed "Charming Charleston". Some of the areas are so quaint, Church St. is filled with beautiful churches of every denomination, cobblestone roads, old houses, horse drawn carriages and my favorite, gas lamps on the homes. We walked the city market where vendors were selling all different wares, from jewelry to baskets, soaps, clothing, pretty much anything you could possibly want. We got lucky as the rain held off until we were back in the rental car and then it poured.

Thursday we got organized for our departure Friday morning. Time for a couple of nights at anchorages before we get to Myrtle Beach.
